A Celebration of Success

Pan Am 2023 Roundup

Congratulations to the 2023 Canadian Pan Am Games Shooting Team!

You all made Canada very proud for your dedication, sportsmanship and achievement.

Please join SFC in congratulating Team Canada!  We are so proud of our Shooters!  Our athletes work incredibly hard and it was exciting for the shooting community to rally behind them and cheer them on as they competed for Canada at the Pan Am Games!  This is an important Games year as each country competes to secure quota positions for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.  Canada secured two quotas in Santiago with Shannon Westlake's bronze in Women's 3P Rifle and Tugrul Ozer's gold in Men's 10m Air Pistol.

Canada's next opportunity to compete for 2024 Olympic quota spots will come in the new year.

In celebration of Team Canada and their accomplishments at the Pan Am Games, here's a roundup of the highlights:

  • Canada came in third place overall after the US and Brazil
  • Canada sent 14 athletes to compete in the shooting events at the 2023 Pan Am Games at Polígono de Stephanie de Pudahuel, Chile
  • The shooting events took place from October 21 to 27, 2023
  • Tugrul Özer won gold in Men's 10m Air Pistol, secured a Paris 2024 quota spot for Canada and set a new Pan Am Games record of 240.5, narrowly beating James Hall of the USA in the final shot (see ceremony video)  (see shot video). The previous record was 237.3 set in 2019.
  •
    • Shannon Westlake won bronze in Women's 3P Rifle and secured a Paris 2024 quota spot for Canada.  Shannon's win was a nail bitter, coming down to the last shot, medaling with a score of 446.5 in the final (See the winning shot here). America won gold (458.4) and silver (457.2); both beating the previous old Pan Am Record of 454.9. (Listen to Victory Announcement)
